About This Quote

When I am at my most vulnerable, during the early weeks of my cycle, I find myself feeling completely different from the person I am when I am not menstruating. I become more emotional and more sensitive to other people’s opinions. That’s when my self-esteem is at its lowest. During this time of the month, I feel completely different from the person that I am when I am not on my period. Before I went on birth control, I used to get tired very easily and would get a headache very easily.

In fact, before going on birth control, it was difficult for me to even get out of bed some mornings without getting a headache — and yes, it did hurt! — but only because I was so tired and so stressed out about my period. Now, even though these symptoms occur during the beginning of my period and aren’t caused by hormonal fluctuations alone, they still happen and it takes a lot of effort and willpower just to get through each day. Getting better does not mean that you will never experience these symptoms again or that you won’t have periods where you feel completely out of sorts with yourself and your emotions. It just means that eventually you will get used to them and eventually you will be able to deal with them — in fact, most women find that their periods stabilize once they begin using birth control consistently.
